“Christmas Carol” Wins National Honor for Second Year in a Row

September 12, 2019

The American Bus Association’s Destinations magazine recently awarded Totem Pole Playhouse’s national award-winning production of  A Christmas Carol a 2019 Best of the Best designation in the category of Entertainment for the second year in a row. Destinations magazine’s Best of the Best honors outstanding travel industry members who go above and beyond for the group tour industry. Categories include Adventure, Culture, Entertainment, Festivals & Events, Food & Beverage, Lodging, and Shopping.

Those designated Best of the Best have the support of their peers and customers and are known for excellent service. Totem Pole Playhouse’s stage adaptation of Dickens’ classic tale of redemption was chosen out of nearly 100 entries and was one of only 10 chosen in the Entertainment category.

“Totem Pole Playhouse is deeply honored to have received this highly coveted designation for a second year in a row,” said the Playhouse’s Producing Artistic Director, Rowan Joseph.

“It isn’t easy deciding where to take a group tour,” said Peter Pantuso, president & CEO of the American Bus Association. “People can be hard to please, and even if you have some favorite places, it’s always helpful when you can find somewhere new to bring guests. That’s why we’re honoring the Best of the Best for 2019, featuring 60 top theaters, museums, festivals, experiences, hotels, and more. These are places that will leave your customers happy and impressed.”

Totem Pole’s production is noted for restoring the many Christian references in Dickens’ original 1843 novel which are often omitted from other more secular versions.  “While there are many wonderful stage adaptations of this beloved holiday classic, our version literally opens with Tiny Tim saying his evening prayers and closes with his famous, “God bless us everyone!”,” Joseph said, We’ve literally put the Baby Jesus back in A Christmas Carol.”
